I have a 'go-to' for my front porch planters...red geraniums and ivy with a few impatients thrown in. The beauty of geraniums is that they can go full sun or shade. The pop of red never disappoints or disappears and they don't need a ton of water...which can be a pain with planters because they dry out so quickly. Don't forget to work with the scale of your home. For example, if you have a super tall front door or porch ceiling, don't place a stubby short planter out there.
